December Recommendations

Dear Crossway Family,

Can you believe that it is already December? I’m impressed by how many different things we have gone through together as a church. December is the month in which people reflect on the year that is coming to an end. Some people consider resolutions for the coming year. It is also a month in which people, willingly or not, are surrounded by things proclaiming that Jesus Christ, God himself, come to this earth to dwell among us. Emmanuel is the message of the Christian life.

For this month, I have a song, two music album recommendations, and two books.

Merry Christmas,

Moisés

By Sovereign Grace Music

These two albums are a beautiful combination of rich, profound theology reflected in Jesus Christ’s incarnation and excellent musical arrangements.

Prepare Him Room reflects on the need to consider in our hearts and minds the gift that we received in Jesus Christ. During the business of life, we need to set our lives to make a stop to enjoy the message and story of Jesus Christ.

Heaven Has Come reflects on the blessing and the implications that God himself decided to dwell among us. Jesus Christ came to us in perfect love.

Oh Come, All you Unfaithful is a song in the album Heaven Has Come by Sovereign Grace Music. It is a beautiful song that speaks so loudly to our deep need for grace and forgiveness. Our brothers and sisters at Sovereign Grace Music put together this video; here is the explanation of the video in words of our brothers and sisters from Sovereign Grace Music.

This video contains people who are processing “O Come, All You Unfaithful,” most of them for the first time, in light of their own experiences. A stillborn child. A strained marriage. Feelings of shame. Legalism. Loss. Loneliness. Or simply having a heart that weeps with those who weep. We think seeing their responses as Lisa Clow sings communicates even more clearly that Jesus wasn’t born for people who have it all together. He was born for those who have nothing. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11.28–30, ESV) “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1.21, ESV) So come.

By Johnny Mac

In this book, John MacArthur does masterful work. MacArthur brings together the whole story of Jesus; it is more than a harmony of the gospels. The book combines different Scriptures to tell the story of Jesus Christ chronologically. Definitely, a book that you will want to use as a personal or family devotional or as a Bible study as you go deep into the story of Jesus.

By John Piper

A beautiful devotional to prepare your heart for the Christmas season. John Piper combines rich theology and deep emotions as he helps us to reflect on the incredible gift that Jesus is for our salvation and our good.
